Elite Eight Tidbits

Villanova 50 Houston 44

Villanova is in the Final Four for the first time since 2018 and 7th time overall.

Villanova is 7-8 in the Elite Eight, but has won their last 4 appearances.

Villanova is 2-1 vs. Houston in the tournament:

  • 1981 Round of 64 - Villanova 90 Houston 72

It is also the first time a Big East team has advanced to the Final Four since Villanova did in 2018.  Since Louisville and Syracuse went to the Final Four in 2013, Villanova is the only Big East team to advance to the Final Four (2016, 2018 and 2022).

Duke is in the Final Four for the first time since 2015 and the 17th time overall.

Mike Krzyzewski is in the Final Four for the 13th time passing John Wooden for the most all-time.

Duke is 17-6 in the Elite Eight and ends a 2-game losing streak in that round.

The ACC has a team in the Final Four for the first time since 2019 when Virginia won the National Championship.  The last two times that the ACC has had a team in the Final Four, they won the National Championship (2019 - Virginia, 2017 - North Carolina).

Duke is 2-1 vs. Arkansas in the tournament:

Kansas is in the Final Four for the first time since 2018 and the 16th time overall.

Kansas is 16-9 in the Elite Eight.

A Big Twelve team is in the Final Four for the 4th consecutive tournament (2018 - Kansas, 2019 - Texas Tech, 2021 - Baylor, 2022 - Kansas).  It is the longest streak in conference history.  It is the first time that a conference has had a team in four consecutive Final Fours since the Big Ten from 2012 to 2015 (2012 - Ohio State; 2013 - Michigan; 2014 - Wisconsin; 2015 - Michigan State, Wisconsin).

Kansas has won 7 consecutive tournament games against the ACC.  They are 12-9 overall.

Kansas is 6-0 in tournament games in the state of Illinois.  The 6 wins is tied with Illinois for the most all-time.  Illinois is also 6-0 in their home state.
