First Round Tournament Tidbits - Friday Evening Edition

Kansas is in the Round of 32 for the 11th straight year.  They are now 32-2 in the Round of 64.

Kansas is now 9-4 in the state of Oklahoma.  The 9 wins is the most by any team.

Kansas is 34-10 on Fridays.  The 34 wins is tied for the most wins on Friday with North Carolina.

Kansas scored 100 points in consecutive years in the Round of 64 for the first time in school history.

Duke is in the Round of 32 for the 3rd straight year.  They are now 28-4 in the Round of 64.

Duke is 3-0 in the state of South Carolina.  The 3 wins is the most by any team.

Troy is now 0-2.  Their only other tournament appearance was in 2003 when they lost to Xavier 71-59 in the Round of 64.

Wichita State is in the Round of 32 for the 5th straight year.  They are now 7-4 in the Round of 64.  They have won as a double-digit seed in the Round of 64 for the second consecutive year.

There are multiple teams from the state of Kansas in the Round of 32 for the 8th straight year which is the longest active streak.  North Carolina and Indiana are next with 3 straight years.

Gregg Marshall becomes he first Wichita State coach to win 10 tournament games.

Dayton loses to a double-digit seed in the Round of 64 for the second consecutive year and the 3rd time overall.  They are 0-3 when facing a double-digit seed in the Round of 64.

Cincinnati is in the Round of 32 for the 2nd time in 3 years.  They are now 16-5 in the Round of 64.

Michigan State wins as a lower seed for the 17th time.  That ties Villanova for the most wins as lower seed all-time.

Michigan State is in the Round of 32 for the 5th time in 6 years.  They are now 20-7 in the Round of 64.

Miami ends a streak of 3 wins in the Round of 64.  Their last loss in the Round of 64 was in 2002.  They are now 5-3 in the Round of 64.

South Carolina wins their first tournament game since 1973 when they defeated Louisiana-Lafayette in the Regional Third Place Game.

South Carolina's win snaps a 5-game losing streak and is their first ever in the Round of 64.  They are now 1-4 in the Round of 64.

Frank Martin becomes only the second South Carolina coach to win a tournament game.  Frank McGuire coached South Carolina's previous 4 wins.

South Carolina wins on a Friday for the first time in tournament history.  Their previous 4 wins were all on Saturday.

South Carolina's 93 points is the most they have scored in tournament history (14 games).  Their previous high was 90 which was achieved 3 times.

South Carolina's 20 point margin of victory is their largest in tournament history.  Their previous high was 12 when they defeated Villanova 90-78 in the Regional Third Place Game.

Marquette's loss ends a 3 game win streak in the Round of 64.  They are now 9-9 in the Round of 64.

Marquette is 7-9 vs. the SEC.  The 9 losses is the most by any team against the SEC.

UCLA wins their third straight Round of 64 game and are in the Round of 32 for the 3rd time in 4 years.  They are 20-6 in the Round of 64.

UCLA is now 28-1 when playing in California.  The 28 wins is the most all-time.

Kent State loses in the Round of 64 for the third straight time.  They are 2-4 in the Round of 64.

The 97 points allowed by Kent State is the most they have allowed in tournament history (10 games).  Their previous high was 81 vs. Indiana in the 2002 Elite Eight.

Kentucky is in the Round of 32 for the 4th consecutive year.  They have won their last 7 Round of 64 games.  They are now 26-3 in the Round of 64.

Northern Kentucky loses their first tournament game every played.  New teams go 2-3 in their first games.

The average points scored in the Round of 64 was 75.4.  That was the 3rd highest Round of 64 since the field expanded.  Only 1989 (77.9) and 1988 (77.7) had higher Round of 64 averages.

Nine teams scored 90 or more points in the Round of 64.  That is the most since 1993.

There were no overtimes in the Round of 64 for the first time since 2013.
