Championship Tidbits

North Carolina wins their 6th National Championship.  They pass Duke and Indiana for the 3rd most all-time.  Only UCLA (11) and Kentucky (8) have won more.

North Carolina is 6-5 in National Championship games.

Roy Williams wins his 3rd National Championship.  He ties Jim Calhoun and Bob Knight for 4th all-time behind John Wooden (10), Mike Krzyzewski (5) and Adolph Rupp (4).

North Carolina joins 2014 Connecticut as the only teams to defeat a #1, #2, #3 and #4 seed in the same tournament.  Before this tournament, North Carolina's last win over a top 4 seed was the 2009 National Championship game.

North Carolina is the first National Champion to win all of its last 3 games by single digits since Connecticut in 1999.

Gonzaga loses in their first championship game appearance.  They are the 4th consecutive team to lose in their first appearance.  The others are Butler (2010), Illinois (2005) and Georgia Tech (2004).  The last team to win in their first appearance was Maryland in 2002.

Mark Few is now third all-time in most tournament wins without a championship with 26.  Only Eddie Sutton (39) and Bob Huggins (31) have more.

Gonzaga becomes the 25th team to enter the tournament with 1 or fewer losses that fails to win the championship since Indiana won in 1976.  There have been 77 teams enter the tournament with 1 or fewer losses.  Only 13 have won the championship.

Gonzaga is 0-8 vs. #1 seeds.  Only Temple and Arkansas have a worse record at 0-9.

Gonzaga is 0-8 vs. teams ranked in the top 6 of the AP poll.  They are tied with Creighton for the worst record all-time.
