South Region Tournament Facts

Here are some tournament facts about tonight's South Region Semifinalists:

Michigan is in the Elite Eight for the first time since 1994.  It is their 12th Elite Eight.

John Beilein is in the Elite Eight for the 2nd time and the 1st with Michigan.

Michigan is 11-1 in the Sweet Sixteen.

Michigan is 4-5 vs. #1 seeds.

Kansas loses for the first time as a #1 seed vs. a Big Ten opponent.  They had won their first 4.

The Big Ten is 15-13 vs. the Big Twelve.

Michigan is 8-10 vs. teams ranked in the Top 5 of the AP Poll.

Michigan is 6-2 in overtimes.

There is no Big Twelve team in the Elite Eight for the first time since 2005.

Florida is in the Elite Eight for the 3rd consecutive year.  It is their 7th Elite Eight and 5th since 2006.

Billy Donovan is in his 6th Elite Eight all with Florida.

Florida is 7-2 in the Sweet Sixteen and has won their last 6 Sweet Sixteen games.

Florida is 14-2 as a #3 seed.  The 14 wins is the most for a #3 seed and only Connecticut has a better winning percentage at 6-0.

Florida is a tournament-best 21-0 when their opponent scores fewer than 64 points.

Florida Gulf Coast loses their first ever tournament game.  They are now 2-1.

Florida Gulf Coast is the first #15 seed to advance to the Sweet Sixteen. 

Florida Gulf Coast is in the Sweet Sixteen for the first time in school history.

Florida Gulf Coast is the first school to win their first two tournament games since Florida in 1987.

The Mountain West is the first conference to 4 games to teams seeded 12 or worse in tournament history.  No conference had ever lost more than 2 in the past.

Florida Gulf Coast wins in their first ever tournament game.  They are the 7th school to win in their first ever tournament game since 2000:
