Princeton is 2-7 all-time in the tournament in games decided by 1 or 2 points.

Virginia's win is their first ever tournament win over a team from the state of North Carolina.  They previously had lost to North Carolina 78-65 in the 1981 National Semifinals and to North Carolina State 63-62 in the 1983 Elite Eight.
