Final Four Tournament Facts

This is the 4th consecutive year without multiple #1 seeds in the Final Four which is a tournament record.  Since 2010, only 3 #1 seeds have made the Final Four.  That is the fewest #1 seeds over a 4-year period in history.  The previous low was 4 from 2003 to 2006 and again from 2009 to 2012.

The Big East has a team in the Final Four for the 5th consecutive year.  Before this streak, they had never had more than 2 years in a row with a team in the Final Four.  Here are the Big East Final Four streaks:
  • 2009-2013
  • 2003-2004
  • 1984-1985
The Big East has had 7 teams in the Final Four over the last 5 years.  The ties the record for the most teams in the Final Four over a 5-year period:
  • SEC (1993 to 1997, 1994 to 1998)
  • ACC (1988 to 1992, 1989 to 1993, 1990 to 1994)
ACC has not had a Final Four team for the last 3 years.  This is the first time since 1961 that they have missed the Final Four for 3 straight years.  They missed 4 straight from 1958 to 1961.  Since the conference began in 1953-54 season, it is only their third time missing 3 or more consecutive Final Fours:
  • 1954 to 1956
  • 1957 to 1961
  • 2011 to 2013
The Big East has 2 teams in the Final Four. The last time that 2 teams from the same conference were in the Final Four was 2009.
