Michigan State - Valparaiso Tournament Facts

Here are some NCAA Tournament facts about Michigan State and Valparaiso:

Post-Game 
Michigan State is now 17-3 when allowing fewer than 60 points. 


Michigan State advances to the Round of 32 for the 6th time in 7 years.  They were defeated by UCLA in the 2011 Round of 64.


Michigan State's 65 points is tied for the fewest that Valparaiso has allowed in 10 tournament games.  They also allowed 65 points to Michigan State in 2000.


Pre-Game
This is the second meeting between Michigan State and Valparaiso in the tournament.  Michigan State defeated Valparaiso 65-38 in the 2000 Round of 64 in route to the National Championship.

Michigan State is 0-1 vs. teams in the Horizon League.  They lost to Butler 52-50 in the 2010 National Semifinals.  (Valparaiso was in the Summit League when they played in 2000.)

Michigan State is 0-1 when seeded #3.  They lost to Weber State 79-72 in the 1995 Round of 64.

Michigan State is 3-1 when playing in the state of Michigan.  Their only loss was 89-72 to North Carolina in the 2009 National Championship game.

This is Valparaiso's first appearance in the tournament as a member of the Horizon League.  All of their prior appearances were as a member of the Horizon League.

Valparaiso's only wins in the tournament came in 1998 when they went to the Sweet Sixteen.  They defeated Mississippi 70-69 and then defeated Florida State 83-77.
